The worst decade for Ford with regards to cavitation was the 1980s. By the late 80s, they had recognized the problem and set
out to correct the issue in the early 90s with the Genesis blocks. The fix was to shorten and stiffen the water jackets.

To the best of my knowledge, Ford Tractor has never used the Bosch fuel system, and certainly not common rail systems. In the
1980s, the fuel system was largely the same as it was in the 60s and 70s, so I would not lay the blame for cavitation on fuel
systems.

I agree with Bern, cavitation erosion is block related, not fuel. The Injectors determine how hard the pump works far as pressure goes and while the latest engines
injectors opening pressure is 4000-4500 PSI range, most older engines were still using 2500-3500 PSI range on direct injected diesels. Ford/New Holland Genesis engines do
use Bosch pumps/injectors in both combines and tractors, several around my area and I've not heard of one block failing yet.

Aren't wet sleeve engines, like the JD 4020 to name one, unlike the Ford cast in the block cylinders, prone to more pitting also?
