I have an early diesel that didn't come with the factory balancer on it. Would any of you know what the best pump and timing would be for that particular engine.? I have an early pump and also a later style pump to use. Which timing with which pump would be optimal? Thanks, rrr.

If I recall the early, no delivery valve pump times at 18 degrees BTDC, later pumps were timed at 23 degrees BTDC. Early pump could be timed at 23 also, engine may run smoother at high speed, no load at that setting. Might not start as well though as early pumps had less speed advance than later pumps.

And years ago, for what it's worth, the the Ford mechanic always thought a couple of gaskets between the steering gear and the transmission helped to eliminate some of the steering wheel vibration.
