3550 transmission leak

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and new to tractor repair. I just bought a ford 1974 3550 with the bucket attachment. It had a spun rod
bearing and a leak at the bell housing. I have separated the tractor and the clutch is soaked in hydraulic fluid. From what information that
I can find says that the front input shaft seal is blown. Any advise if this is correct and who would have the parts to fix it?

Sometimes it is amazing what is available from CNHI...then again Ford tended to carry over parts in a lot of cases from one model to another. By all means, try YT and Messicks has perhaps even more than CNHI on older models. Good luck!

New Holland owns the Legacy of Ford tractor parts, so if parts are available you should be able to get them from your local New Holland dealer, or on-line from partspring or Messicks.

I think it is an 8 speed. I have not had it long and have not been able to drive it. It has the hi and shifter if that helps any. is there a
way to trace numbers on transmission to know exact?

Post the numbers to the rear of starter. It will tell model, date of mfg, serial #. Most likley its 6x4 manuel reversing.

Those two numbers are the production date code and the serial number:

5E02B - May 2, 1975 during the day shift
C464400 - US built 1975 serial number.

There should be a third number near those two, probably up into the rougher part of the casting so it will be harder to see. Also look for a sticker on the under side of the right side hood panel, up above the battery. If the sticker is still there and is still legible it will have the same 3 numbers plus a few more.
