I plan to change most of the fluids in my 841 after finding water in the transmission fluid. Must be from condensation as it has never been out in the rain in the two years I've owned it. I cannot be sure of the seals between the three sections so I plan to put gear oil in all three sections. I always used 80/90wt gear oil from Tractor Supply in my 8N. It's just too hot here in Texas for 134D. When I tried it on the 8n, it leaked and seeped through every seal and orifice.

So, will 80/90 wt gear oil work for the 841? I know they have UTF but I think that's 134D.
I have the chart for the capacities. Looks like about 26 quarts. So a five gallon bucket and a 2.5 gallon jug should do the job.

Thanks!

80/90wt gear oil is fine for the transmission and rear axle of your 841, but it will be a bit heavy for the hydraulics, especially in cold weather. Most people who use a common fluid in all 3 use a UTF that meets the 134D specification.

Sean, we have pretty mild winters here in SE Texas. And I rarely need the tractor in the winter, anyway. So I’m more concerned about the thinness of 134D in our hot summers.

Modern UTF fluids that meet or exceed the 134D specification have Extreme Pressure (EP) additives that allow them to provide good lubrication for the mating surfaces of gears up to very high temperatures. It is designed for ambient outdoor temperatures up to 120 degrees.
