Im going to be changing the axle seals on my 3600 in a couple of weeks. Im trying to get all my parts and tools together and I was going to order one of those sheet metal axle nuts sockets. I was wondering if any of you gents might know the size of that nut, as I cant find that info in my repair manuals.

Should be a 2 3/4”, you’re gonna need to go to a big truck parts place or a good NAPA and get a sheet metal axle socket so you can cut the center out
and weld it to your handle, remember you have to leave the socket open so the axle can pass through

Thanks Joe my plans exactly. Thats the info I was looking for. Im going to try to find the socket online.

Thanks Ultradog, I just ordered one online. I also ordered a set of the 2 wide brake shoes, well see how that works out. My right side drum(the side that leaks) doesnt have any perceivable step in it, may have to skim the left side in the lathe. Have any of yall ever used the wide shoes?

Thanks for the thread Hobo. Im going to have to rig up something similar. I did order an axle nut, Im only doing the right side Ill wait till the other side starts leaking to do it, but Ill have the tools when its time.
