My Select O Speed finally gave up on me today, won’t move in any gear including reverse, i think it’s finally time for the four speed I’ve been talking about for the last couple years. I just used the tractor the other day to move a junk car. Went to do a little fire wood today and left me stranded on the front lawn. Love the tractor but the transmission has been on the brink of failure since I have had it. Hope everyone is doing well, from Southern Albany County NY trees are changing and absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for reading and listening.

1st - check to see that the TDC didn't pop out!

If it's still engaged,split the dang thing and put a TLC and/or input shaft repair in it.

Finally, that SOS is ten times the transmission that old 4 speed is. Personally, I'd never even consider swapping out an SOS for a gear transmission.

IIRC, 881 input shaft differs from 871. I would not think an industrial model would have been equipped with the 881 version of the SOS.
