Ford 6610 thermostat

Hotter is always better. Many of today's diesel engines are running well over 200 degrees. As an example, Detroit builds a semi-truck engine (DD13) that does not even turn on the fan until it reaches 225. Yes, you read that correctly.

It could be argued that older diesel engines should not be run that hot because of the o-rings on the liners, but that is not a consideration on a Ford engine.

Thanks, I think mine is starting to stick closed because it's dumping more water out of the radiator cap release. I tried another cap but is doing the same thing. The second cap is a 16 psi while the old one is 13 psi.

I recently bought a 1988 3910 and replaced the T stat with a 188F stat. while my 2 other Fords have 160F. Forget the reasoning. The 160 needle, when
working hard in the summer stays in the center of the white area while the 188 sits right on the division of white and red background. Once there, as the
stat is fully open, it stays; doesn't creep up telling me that the cooling capacity of the tractor is adequate to hold the temp where set.

With that said, looking back over the years, when I had lower temp stats and the needle would creep up after opening temp was reached, told me that I
must have had cooling system problems whereby the cooling wasn't adequate for the load on the tractor at the time.

Just my luck, no thermostat when I pulled the tractor apart. Now for cleaning it up and putting it back together.
