Ford 601 fuel shutoff

The people the boss got this 601 from were shutting the gas off at this brass screw, if it's not screwed clear in, it leaks. Is that the shutoff, and what's the best way to seal it up?

here's a link to a valve refurbishment thread https://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1341099 - in short, remove the valve from the tank, drill out the rivet, unscrew the needle, tap the body for a threaded bolt, put the new o-ring on the needle, thread needle into body, install bolt to act as stop, replace the valve to the tank.

I did three of these a couple months ago and purchased packages of o-rings and bolts, email me your address and I'll send you a set

Thanks, looks simple enough. Need anything
for them?

I'll have to get pics of the brush
hog/belly mower that's on it. It's blue
with the same red underneath as the
tractor. Three spindles with two swinging
blades each, has a chain box that bolts in
place of the PTO and a shaft drive to the
deck.

sent you an email, not sure what's going on with the forum, I have mine turned on in the profile.

It looks simple and it kinda is, it's a PITA to get out of the tank and replace. Be careful with drilling the rivet out, use a drill press and drill dead center.

Mine leaked like that too. I took the brass screw out, plastered it with JB weld, Put it back in, and then put it back on the tank with a new O ring and and some JB all around the edges.

Then I put an on/off inline valve farther down where I can reach it better. Not pretty but it wont ever leak again.

I didn't drill the rivet out. I used a
dull knife to pop it out. Then I reused
it. Worked great on 2 of them. Busted the
head off the 3rd. Had to drill and tap
that one. As far as getting the valve
off the tank I use a small ratchet type
tool that holds screw driver bit.

Ditto on not drilling. I have a very sharp set of flush-cut diagonal cutting pliers that will easily pop out the rivet.

What number, size or description id the oring? I just drilled one out and the old oring looks like it might have been a square sided or flat sized ring.

the shut-off o-ring is 009
the valve to tank is 115
the brass pan head screw I used is 10/32 NF X 5/16", an 8/32 NF X 5/16" will work if you do a clean job of getting the rivet out, the 5/16" is the most critical dimension.

McMaster-Carr has these o-rings (and the screws). There are different materials and different configurations available. The original was a standard configuration o-ring.
