Another one for Bern

So many thanks for the trick to getting the TW30 to go together. I hooked up the starter and it went right to 1/4 apart. I just put a ratchet strap on each side to sorta pull it together. But it would not go the last 1/4 inch no mater how much I wiggled it. So I rolled it back apart. Since the suction tube was an issue I had placed a couple of nice thick flat washers under the tab that holds it in place. I also bought a 272285 oring from the dealer to put on it. Because the one I had put on it before was just one I had on hand. Now with the tractor split, I can't push the tube into the port in the back cover of the trans. I think the oring is to thick. 90 Duro 1.299 ID x .103 tkh. With two straps , I had some pretty good pressure against that oring and it was all greased up. Think I will get another 272285 oring just to make sure I have the right one. Tube goes right in without the oring.

If you were within 1/4", you were very likely just hanging up on the 2 case dowels. A little fudging with the alignment side to side or up and down likely would have taken care of that issue. I seriously doubt that tube was preventing you from getting it all the way home. Because if it was, the force of the two ratchet straps would have easily bent the support tab for that tube and you would have never known it.

Sounds to me like the o-ring is a separate issue. Obviously you need to get that figured out before you try putting it together again. Make careful measurements to make certain that you tube is not only aligned with the hole, but that the seating depth will be proper once it's together. If you don't do that, you'll be back where you started, with little to no trans pressure.

Yes, that is what I thought as well, but I sure did a lot of fudging with lining up those two dowels. I had three other studs screwed into the rear housing as well. Just to help line things up. I have a nice splitting stand and a hydraulic jack under both ends of the rear housing. When I first split the tractor, the short strap that held the tube in place was bent real bad. It had to be straightened and welded back in place.
