Brake tubes.

I need to replace the seals where the brake tubes go through the transmission as they are leaking. Has anyone done this? Just curious if they pull out and go back in without much trouble and if they are all alone as in nothing attached to them inside that I have to worry about so I don't have to open up the top of the case??
Thanks in advance.

Lyle,

Which model/year tractor do you have?
I was able to change my brake seals on my 75 4000su from the outside.

I think my crystal ball is working today, so I'm going to guess that you have a Ford tractor of some sort... but that doesn't help me answer your question. Could you tell us what model of tractor it is?

Ford 3600. These seals go into the rear case where the brake rods or tubes go through from the right side to the left side as you sit on the tractor. A seal is on each side of the case where the shaft passes through.

It sounds like you're talking about the brake cross shaft. If so, there is nothing inside that you need to worry about. Simply pull out the shaft, pry out the old seals and pound the new ones in with a suitable socket or bushing driver.

Be careful not to damage the seal on the right side when you feed the shaft thru it. I install the left seal feed the shaft thu and install the right side seal by sliding it over the shaft and driving it into the case.
