71 Ford 4400

Hello,
New member here. I recently purchased this 71 Ford 4400 gas tractor. I got it for $500 because the 3 point was inoperable. I did what I consider my due diligence and searched the forums far and wide. I've come to the realization that this is most likely from a dirty filter and/or screen. I pulled the top cover and lift arms because, "it's a tractor, how hard can this be?"... I realized pretty quickly that the tractor had to be separated to get this done. I split it apart and managed to get the screen and hydrailic pump out with almost no effort. The filter has me at a loss. Where do I go from here? There is just no way to get the darn thing out, which I suppose is why it was never changed. Does anyone have a super secret trick to get this out and replaced?

I'm reasonably sure that the service manual has the procedure, and I'm almost as sure that you need to pull the PTO shaft to do it.

I'll hit the book. I was really hoping I
didn't need to remove the PTO shaft. I
suppose that's why it hasn't ever been
changed in 50 years. Thank you!
