1972 4000 Independent PTO clutch replacement

1972 4000 8 speed transmission with Independent PTO.
I'm replacing the Clutch pack for the PTO in my tractor. I have a Ford service manual dated 1966.
the manual said I need to check the gap between the hydraulic pump drive gear and the PTO clutch shaft, and install a shim if needed.
The manual does say it may not need a shim, when I took the tractor apart no shim was in there.
I know there was a change up in 1968 but I'm not sure what was changed.
I can't find shims on the New Holland parts pages.
Do I need a shim in there?
Thanks.

I did this a year ago.
It is part #16 in the exploded view.
You have to assemble the transmission to
the rear end then measure the gap with a
feeler guage. Then split it again to
install the shims.
Book says to shim untill you have .016
-.025 clearance.
There is a pretty good write up on it in
the I&T FO-31 manual.
Here are a couple of photos from mine.
Those shims are still available from New
Holland.
They come in a couple of thicknesses.
By the way, welcome to the Ford Board.
