4610 PTO Help Needed

First post gentlemen. I replaced the seal on the PTO. Attempting to install shaft and it stops about 3" short. Peering inside the housing, there appears to be a bearing inside the front of the case that is out of alignment. I can move it into position, but it doesn't stay. There appears to be an access cover on the left side of the case, just behind the engagement lever. Can that area be accessed by removing the cover? Any tips for putting this back together? Thanks in advance.

Replaced seal on my 3930. There is a retainer bearing that sometimes will drop down. As you are re-installing pto shaft twist it back and forth as you work it back in. Usually it will work bearing back into place. Don't try to force it.

guessing the thrust washer fell down and is blocking it... get a concrete rod with a big glob of axle grease on the end.. tape a small flash light to it... and use it to push the washer back up into place, with the glob of grease holding it... then carefully insert the pto shaft and give it a twist if you encounter a bit of resistance... it make take several tries.

take a broom handle with a glob of heavy grease and work it in there to get the washer up where it belongs. The grease will hold it long enough to get the shaft in. It may take a few tries but better than splitting the tractor.

I've never used the grease method, I push the pto shaft in until it contacts the thrust washer, then keeping pressure on the shaft I rotate it, the rotating motion walks the thrust washer back up into position and once there the shaft will slid on in.
It's worked every time for me, I can usually have the shaft in place ready to bolt up in less than a minute.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help. I tried the grease and broom stick twice with no luck. Third time, I applied grease and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Then, inserting the shaft, I gave it just a little twist and it fell right into place. Took all of 5 seconds.
