Is GL5 ok FORD 4000 trans lube? Don't think its a syncro trans but ordered some GL1 Ford mineral lube to be safe...any info out there on this?

Welcome to the forum. There are many threads on this forum on this very subject if you would search for them.

You also need to name your transmission for us. I am guessing since you said "I don't think it's synchro" That it's not a Select-O-Speed.

Original lube in a 4 or 5 speed " was 80W mild extreme pressure lube. 4 speed was 6 quarts and 5 speed was 8 quarts.

I can't believe you said that. After all the years of hype about using plain mineral oil in those tranny's and you come up with this statement? Obviously you have a good reason with your background and all. Would you share it please, sir?

Years ago I converted my '63 2000 (and my '65 3000 while I had the tub handy). to regular THD fluid since the hyd. feed pipe through the tranny case to the hyd section, had been leaking since I had it and every so often you had to fill up the hyd sump and drain the tranny sump back down to the full port. No difference over the years in operation except in summer the gears were noisier (obviously) and in the winter it shifted lots easier.

I doubt it! If you'd studied this out enough, you'd have known that Texasmark1's reply was to Dean and not me!
