Power Steering Seal

I need to replace the power steering upper shaft seal on my Ford 4000 tractor. The seal I need to remove is shot and looks different than the one in the kit I
bought from YT. It appears to have a metal ring holding the seal in. I took the spring out of the seal. It looks like I need to drive something down between the
ring and the shaft to bend the ring enough to get it out. If anyone has done this I would appreciate some advice because I hate breaking something I'm trying to
fix. Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you pryed out only half of your old seal. In other words, you separated the rubber part from the metal part when you attempted to remove the seal.

You need to finish removing the metal portion of the old seal before you can drive the new one in. Get a small chisel in behind it and deform it enough to pry it out.

Is your 4000 an earlier 4 cylinder 4000 or a later 3 cylinder 4000? And did you order the seal for the correct one?

Can you post a picture of the steering assembly before you go beating it up? if it is a bendix, the seal gland will have to be removed and the seals replaced. This is what I do on my end, and have several satisfied customers since starting this business.I have posted pictures on this site showing the new parts I have for the cylinders.Do yourself a favor and don't tear it up.

Mine is actually a 4030 Light Industrial. It is a 4 cylinder and looks just like my 850. I didn't see many if any options for the seal kit. I order the one
from YT, SKR632A.
