Ford 6000 History

So were the early 6000s sent back to the factory? I read that the fixes required were more than the dealers could handle. If they were sent back were
they redone and resold? I ask because this one that has a '64 SN on appears to have red paint underneath.
 
From what I understand, they were refurbished by dealers as well as back at the factory. After looking at the amount of work that needed to be done, I suspect that most dealers passed on it if/when they could. But that is only a guess on my part.

The red paint underneath the blue most likely indicates a factory reman. In fact, I have some 6000 literature that shows a blue 6000 with a spot of red on it, likely from a scratch that was made on it before the pics were taken.
 
Yes, Some were rebuilt at the dealership. As a young Ford "mechanic", I still remember one of the updates was the fact that another nitrogen cylinder was added so the tractor would lift a 5 bottom plow 5 times instead of 2 1/2 times without the engine running.
 
My understanding is the tractors were originally red.
Ford recalled them for engine; transmission and hydraulic problems.
You had the option to have the dealer do the repairs or get a newer version of the tractor in exchange and your tractor was sent back to the factory.
I assume most opted for a newer version exchange.
The newer version and the older tractors resold as remanufactured were both painted blue.
What would be rare in my mind would be the tractor fixed at the dealer still in its orginal red color.
 
The original owner wanted to keep the tractor, and is was never repainted, AND he bought the replacement tractor , which was blue
 
I have one of the original red 6000 that was never painted blue here in Alabama. It was bought at a sale in FL and trucked to my location in about 1984. It has has 24 or 26 inch rear wheels.
