Last fall I bought a running 4140 HD Industrial. 1972 model. Four cylinder 172 Gas. 12V negative ground. Oil pressure was 40. I intended on doing lots of repair and painting, but am now abandoning the project. While mowing, the PTO broke out, the water pump broke down and it overheated.
Now looking for someone who wants it for a parts tractor. What Ive done so far.
1) Took the radiator to a shop that says it is not worth the repair.
2) The alternator and starter have been rebuilt.
3) Installed new PTO end cap with snap ring.
4) Pulled the head off. All valves look good, but were sloppy in the guides. ValveS and seats look good. Cylinder walls look good. Still the original 3.9 bore. The cylinders are bored in the block, no replaceable sleeves.
6) Dropped oil pan. Was all clean inside.
5) Bought a new water pump, but will return it.
Front 3-rib tires are new. Back tires have only 10% tread. But I do have chains on them.
I plan to put everything back together loosely, meaning no gaskets or torquing. All fluids are drained. Needs to be hauled from northwest Illinois.
