801 Paint ??

Just looking for Paint color suggestions for the 801 series tractors that we have.. We have 1 861 that is more of a grey then cream and the last one i got has a few blue parts on it.. Maybe I will have some time this winter to do a little paint work..

No 800 (8N, NAA, 500, 600, or 900 for that matter) were ever painted 'cream' or 'blue' from the Highland Park Ford Factory. The standard Ford Tractor paint scheme after the 9N/2N Models was M2822 Vermillion (RED)for all cast iron parts, and Ford M13243 Medium Grey for all sheet metal parts beginning in July, 1947 with the 8N Model and ending in 1962 with the 6000 Model. In '62 Ford brought out the Off-White and Empire Blue scheme and there were some 6000's with those as well. The 'cream' or 'buff' shade was only on the Industrial models. TISCO makes decent paint but the Ford Red matches closest with their TP-110 IHC RED -the other Ford paints they have a bit more orange in them. Some claim the later 50's Fords were more orangy. I don't agree and prefer the 8N Red on all. Your Case/New Holland dealer carries the IRON-GARD Brand and they have the grey and red too.

9N/2N = TISCO FORD DARK GREY M-2888

8N = FORD VERMILLION (RED)M-2822 - TISCO IH TP110 CLOSEST MATCH

8N (AND UP) = FORD MEDIUM GREY M-13243 - TISCO TP-240

8N (AND UP) = *CNH IRON-GARD© ®™ M1J-957 SE4DS

*NOTE: CNH brand says used '39/62' but that isn't right. This is the FORD MEDIUM GREY and not used on the 39-47 Models. CNH no longer makes a Ford M2888 Dark Grey shade.

He's not asking about an 800. He's asking about the 801 series. The red certainly was different between the two. I don't know about the grey/off white color.

Ford then NH then Ford NH and later CNH sold red and gray 956 and 957 that were the correct colors for the 801 series. Not sure if they still sell them.

8N, NAA, and X00s were all vermilion red while the XX1s changed to the orange red. 8N, NAA, and X00s were medium gray as opposed to dark gray earlier and medium gray of the XX1s and white starting with '64. I was fortunate that my 901 which came to me with the 1964 white on the hood and fenders had a small patch on the front edge of one fender that had been covered when it was painted white and was still the original medium gray, which has a slight yellowish tan tint to it. Fiat has no interest in correct colors for old Fords. It would be to their advantage if we were all happy with just one red and one gray so that they would need less inventory. When painting my 901 I wished to have the colors correct so I took parts that had never been painted, cleaned them up good with rubbing compound, and had them digitally analyzed. I used the center hood section and the battery box.

When you see an early tractor next to an XX1 with correct color shades on both, the difference is obvious and striking, and I think very rewarding to have them correct. The Farmall behind my Ford is very close to the older vermillion

Thanks guys.. show crop has the closest to what i was thinking... So be warned showcrop i may be picking on you during the winter..

Starting with the 01 series in 58 the red is definitely more orangish in color. Plain to see the difference looking at my old style corn pickers from 55-57 and the later ones.
