Ford 3600 Power Steering

I have a problem with my power steering that can really be annoying. It seems worse when cold. When my tractor is running and Im off of it say hooking up an implement or something and Ive not got ahold of my steering wheel the front wheels slowly turn to the right. They turn all the way to lock, and always to the right. Once I started my tractor in the winter, and while airing up my right front tire while the engine was warming up almost got my leg pinned between the tire and a post in my shed. Anybody got any ideas. I run Mastertran in my pump.

My guess would be the springs or plungers in the steering control valve are stuck or broke. Would require a tear down and refurbish. There are plenty of threads here and around for guidance.

Thanks OBwan. The tractor has pretty low hours 1680, and yes the hour meter works. Is this pretty common. Might be awhile before I can get to it, I got a lot on my plate right now. Does the steering column nuts tightness have any effect on the plungers in the valve body?

Sorry stupid question. I think I see now. So the spring and plungers are the only thing that holds the spool in the valve body in the neutral position right? Guess I was just hoping for an easy solution.

I will defer to the more experienced members about the specifics. I had to do mine and found two of the springs broken. I also had a broken washer that is labeled a spring and puts tension on the control valve plungers.

Is it a Bendix power assist? Maybe you could post a picture. We rebuild the Bendix units from the mid to late 50's.Might be able to help you.

Thanks bob, its the factory power steering. Itll probably be sometime this fall before I can tear into it. I looked my repair manual over pretty good last night, and it seems it will be pretty strait forward. I wonder if OBwan could tell me where he got his parts, (springs, plungers, gaskets and such). I looked on here, but couldnt find everything. Seems most places want to sell you the valve body.

I got all my parts from a local CNH dealer. Seals, O rings and springs. CNH is pretty proud of some of those parts so the options are buy what you think you need, buy everything or tear it apart and buy what you need. I've read recently that the CNH website may not be working as before.
