I realize this is an old post. If anyone is still out there on this matter I would appreciate any assistance.
I've got the stripped clutch hub. The input shaft is worn but not totally stripped. So I want to fix it right while I've got it split, so will find a shop to probably machine the hex socket method.
My question is on removing the input shaft via the tip up method. What r the steps for removing the shaft? I can hoist the unit vertical and its resting on the wheels. and then once the pump cover is removed, does the input shaft simply slide up and out? Do I need a puller or is it basically free?

Thanks much.

Yes once front is off it should pull rite out. I used to know where to wedge big screwdriver between couple of rotating groups so thrust washer didnt fall down. Its 30+ years since did it.

(quoted from post at 05:37:49 07/11/20) Will be pulling an 881 tranny if you need parts or whole trans. Located in NJ 07838

He doesn't say what tractor he has. An 881 input shaft is different than an input shaft for a single speed PTO equipped tractor, say an 871 for example.
