In response to Nick's post, a feller who has run Fords since they began told me he has always run only one oil for all three..Trans., Hydralic, Diff. What Nick says holds true for me and my 661...the filling instructions aren't the best.

Ol and everyone:
Well, I'm drenched in hydraulic oil, but I got to the root of the problem. First, there was that pesky plate I had to remove to change the relief valve. Turns out that it has a short stud welded to it, with an O-ring in a groove, and that affair sticks up into a port on the bottom of the housing. So after unbolting it, you still have to wrestle it down against the resistance of the O-ring. There's just enough tug-back to make you wonder if you should pry on it. This explains the extra O-ring provided in the valve kit, albeit the wrong one.(thanks Henry!) Next, as Ol said, the filing instructions were always somewhat abstruse, and I discovered that the former owner had been operating with a dry differential! I now have oil in all three compartments, having located the fillers and drains for all three, but alas, no lift...the pump is bad. When pressure primed with air through the dipstick, oil flows copiously from the bleeder port, but the pump will not pump...I have one on the way, and should have it tomorrow, so stay tuned for chapter two of "The Oily Bird Gets the Shaft"....thanks all for the comments and help! Are we having fun now?
