861D Injector Pump Timing

I am replacing the seals in my injector pump and am confused about the proper timing. The tractor manual I have says 18 deg btdc and the diesel supplement manual says 23 deg. Does anyone know which is correct and why there are two different numbers listed out there?

Use 18°

Either will work, but 18* is the updated recommendation.

Thanks for the replies, I will use 18. Probably a mistake in the one manual.

Early pumps with no delivery valve were set at 18 degrees, late pumps with delivery valve were set at 23. Try both if you like, see what engine likes best. DO NOT ADJUST PUMP TIMING WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING!

I start at 23 and then put them on the dyno and find the sweet spot.
