Ford 600 Sticking valves

My 600 takes lots of cranking to start after sitting overnight but then
it starts on first crank everytime the rest of the day! When it finally
starts it blurts lots of black smoke likely since I over choked it in
frustration.
I had this problem some time ago and traced the problem to
sticking valves after removing hood and valve cover. I could see the
valve slowly returning to the rocker arm. I hit it with solvent and
freed it up but now the problem has returned and I hate to have to
remove hood and valve cover! Anyone here have this happen?
I plan to change the oil to a lower viscosity oil and try some
additives to the gas and oil both to loosen up the valves.

I checked the compression after sitting overnight and all cyls read 140 to 150 psi. Then I drained the old dirty oil and put in 5 quarts of gas and oil mixture (80% gas) to disolve the sludge in the crankcase. Tomorrow I will drain off that and put in 5 qts of Dextron ATF and start up the tractor and run for 15 min to get some up to the valves. Then I plan to drain that off and put in the new oil and filter.
All this is to clean the pan and head as much as I can. I hope then it will free up the valves. I also will put some ATF in the gas tank. That is about all I can do. Any comments from you guys?
This tractor does have a problem with the carb needle sticking to the seat when left overnight causing me to hit the carb with a hammer when it starts to free it before the engine stops due to no gas. I do not think this has anything to do with the long grind on the starter for the initial start though. Like I said, once started it runs and restarts great.

On my 640, I can pull the valve cover without touching the hood. It's tight, but I've done it several times

I would pull before mentioned and concentrate on the valve(s) in question instead of pumping all sorts of stuff thru the oil galleys.

Just my thoughts.
