3000 Transmission swap

I bought a 3000 gasser pretty cheap, but it has a 4speed trans. Saw an 8 speed for $500 on fleabay. Is this a decent price? What is involved in the swap? Better to just sell it and find a different tractor? Looking for any advice. Thanks

Swapping things around on those is pretty simple but you are MUCH better off to buy a complete parts tractor - or at least - the transmission, flywheel, clutch and rear end.

So do you need a matching rear end to have the proper gear ratio? Clutch and flywheel must also be different.

There is at least 4 flywheels depending on trans and there is couple different r/a ratios along with pinion differences.
