ford 5600 temperature sending unit?

hello, we have the ford 5600, changed water pump, thermostat 160 degree, and sending unit, it has the push on spade type, well now the heat guage reads a lot higher almost to the red, however the water temp stays right at 160 degrees and shows no sign of overheating while in use, tried a different sending unit from a and I parts thru the ford dealer very little change, the little bit I understand is that the sending unit sends an electric signal to the cluster? fuel guage seems to work ok, can the cluster sometimes fail? I was also told if cluster is bad the fuel guage wouldn't work, any help would be appreciated .

Possibly you got the wrong sending unit. There is a year break in 1979. If you have the later magnetic gauges, you need the June '79 and later sending unit. If you have the earlier bi-metal gauges you need the pre June '79 sending unit.

Bi-metal gauges move very slowly and always return to the left when you turn the key off. Magnetic gauges move very quickly and typically float randomly when the key is turned off.

hello thanks for reply, I thought the only difference was if it is a single push on spade type, will check serial number tomorrow , so would the cluster guage be the same?

hello thanks have serial numbers from tractor data going to check on it and also did look at your suggestion, have to get right year first thanks,
