7600 mechanical temp gauge

I am changing the coolant hoses on my ford 7600 and the current gauge is plumbed into an adapter spliced into the lower hose. I would rather plumb one into the block some where and not cut my new hose. Is the stock temp sensor right behind the ps pump? Does anyone know of a better place to install a mechanical gauge probe as I do not think it will clear the power steering pump and if so what size is the hole I will use for the probe?
Thanks in advance.

The lower radiator hose is the absolute worst place to plumb a temp gauge, as it is the coldest spot in the engine. The best place to plumb
the gauge is where the factory put theirs, next to the thermostat housing in the front of the cylinder head. This would be 3/8" NPT. If you
don't wish to lose the functionality of the factory gauge, then the next best place would be the pipe plug between the two rear intake
manifold bolts. This is where the factory would tap for heater hoses on tractors with cabs. It should be 3/8" NPT pipe thread as well. You
will most likely have to special order the necessary adapter, since most mechanical temp gauges come with 1/2" NPT adapters.

Extremely helpful Bern, the factory one is currently inop so I will just use its spot. The tractor came with the adapter in the lower rad hose and I never thought about it but yeah why would someone put it there, it is the coolest place in the system.

Thanks again.
