Carb assistance needed

I'll try and make this as short as possible with hopefully all the pertinent information.
I have a 55' 861 with a TSX593 that up until this spring ran like a top. Would start by barely touching the starter button. Not so much this year. I had a harder time firing it up this spring, so I started the diagnosis stage. I found the bolt threads in the lower bowl of the carb leaking and noticed the bowl was actually cracked on both sides. It was beyond repair by the time i figured it out. I jumped online looking for a replacement carb. I found one thru an AG store and ordered it. When the box showed up, i pulled out a TSX976. I called them right away and they said itll work no problem. I doubted it because it didnt have the load adjustment screw anywhere, but I'm no expert, so i gave it a try. The tractor would fire up, but stumble under load just as I thought it might. In the meantime I stumbled across a lower for a TSX706 and attached it to my original 593 upper thinking it should work just fine. Now everytime I try to start the tractor it turns over and over then backfires very loudly, then starts right up and seems fine until I shut it off. Sometimes I have to pull the hose off the choke end and put my hand over the carb to get it to start. I haven't sent the other carb (976) back yet as I want to be positive it wont work, but again I'm no expert. I'm at a loss of what's happening here and I need this tractor as it has my loader on it and I'm beginning a new barn project. Any help would be magnificent! Thanks

ome have "load adjustment" on bottom of bowl, others on top of carb.

Thanks JMOR. I've noticed that in some of the pics and breakdowns that you and some of the other smart fellas on here have posted previously, however this 976 carb has it in neither location. Just a small/short threaded brass plug on the bottom and sealed area on the top where that one would have been

am not familiar with 976.

If the carb you received is not what you ordered, send it back.
Your original can be fixed and the bowl you bought "should" work.
It may need some work to get it all straightened out though.

I guess my biggest question is... what could be causing this thing to backfire just before it starts? If I let it sit overnight, I can generally get it to fire up by giving it a little throttle. I'll let it run about 10-15 minutes, shut it off and wait 1-2 minutes then try to restart. It will crank and crank then backfire loudly then start and purr like a kitten.. I have had this carb apart a dozen times and cant seem to find an explanation for it. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a timing issue. Have you checked to make sure the timing is set properly AND the distributor is tightened down so it is not able to move?

...it turns over and over then backfires very loudly,...". The backfire is unburned fuel in exhaust & muffler that explodes when engine finally fires. Wouldn't happen without the "turns over & over" part.
