Need Help with Ford 640 coil identification

I have a 55 640 that I ve owned for eight years. Before I got it, it had been converted from a points system to an electronic ignition. I can t see a brand name on the ignition to tell the brand. The tractor had also been converted to 12v with alternator, battery, lights, etc. changed. I m putting in new plugs, wires, etc. and also wanting to put on a new coil. Right now, it has a coil with an external ballast resister attached to the engine block. The coil is so rusted that I can t get any identification off it.

Can someone tell me what coil I should be using on this with the various changes that have been made to the tractor? Should I use a 6 volt or a 12 volt? What about the ballast resister? Is it needed if the coil has an internal resister? Or, is it needed at all with the electronic ignition instead of points?

Any help/advice is appreciated, and thanks.

Like Ivory soap, I would expect 99.44% chance that it is Pertronix and need 12v coil with "no resistor needed" (eliminate failure items) and the coil will have about 3.0 Ohms primary resistance, NAPA IC14SB will do the job and no doubt others. Pertronix is now recommending Noise suppression secondary plug wires & not standard metal core.
