brake shoes and fuel tank valve for 600

Has anyone else had problems with relined brake shoes that do not hold? I'm on my second set that have very little friction. Also has anybody found a source for the gas tank valve that does not leak? Source for serviceable brake shoes and tank valve would be appreciated.

can t speak to the brake issue but that gas valve has been about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. I bought a new one from tractor supply and it leaked right out of the box. I returned it. I bought one from this site and color me surprised, it leaked. I thought about returning it but how long would this go on? I decided to try something new.

I took the old valve and removed the brass valve screw then plugged the hole so it was basically just a wide open fitting. I then put a brass petcock off the side of the carb. We will see how that holds up. An amazing thing happened after I did that, my fingers stopped hurting from cramping them up under the tank every 3 days to change out another valve and my garage stopped smelling like gas.

Just an outside the box idea to consider.

I'm trying to find a valve too. Bought 1 off of Amazon and it leaked as well. I went to return it and got my refund ok, funny thing is they didn't even want the valve back. Guess they already know their junk and gamble that folks just give up and don't try to return them.

Ammocan - Where did you get the one you'er using? Can you post a link?

I put new shoes from CNH on my tractor about 20 years ago and have had no trouble with them. I also replaced the drums; did you replace your drums as well?

I replaced my lever-style fuel shutoff valve with an aftermarket screw-type valve and it started leaking after a couple of years. I took it apart and replaced the o-rings with ones from the hardware store and it hasn't given me any more trouble. There are plenty of posts on this site that describe how to take the valve apart. Be sure and replace the o-ring that seals between the tank and valve as well as the one that seals the valve screw.

I bought one valve from TS and one off the net. All the ones I have use a brass sort of rivet which I have not been able to remove without damaging the valve.

The tool I've used to pull the rivet is a pair of flush-cutting diagonal cutting pliers, also known as a "<a href="https://aircraft-tool.com/shop/detail.aspx?id=HT2">Cherry rivet cutter</a>". The jaws are sharp enough to grab under the rivet head and pull it loose.
