Classic or Modern View?

I love this site, but I have to ask, probably because I don’t understand the purpose of each; what is the purpose of having two formats for posts and views? I see that the classic view index links to each conversation entry, whereas the modern view index links only titles but includes page numbers. I have looked but can’t find a link to guidelines or explanations of the different views. In conversations, I sometimes find posts all mixed up and out of chronological order. What if I post in MV and some responses come from CV or vice versa. And why does punctuation get altered? Why not just one format? Perhaps the very old posts require the CV to keep them accessible? This post is not criticism. I just want to understand the system so I can easily access the treasure of information. Thank you.

Usefixuse, I started out with classic but then tried modern years ago and found that I liked it better and have been on it since. This forced retreat to classic reinforces my appreciation of modern. Whenever someone tells why they like classic my response is that I like modern for the same reasons. The primary reason for classic hanging on is in the name of the site, "yesterday's"

In a nutshell, there was a group of us who have been here since YT came on the web back in the 90's. When Kim first added the Modern View option a lot of the more senior crowd didn't like it because it was more busy and not as simple to use. Internet was still pretty new to a lot of people, and changes to a older demographic coupled with very the brand new world of the internet was more than some could handle. So Kim left the older version and warned it might not always flow seamlessly and post might not appear in correct order for those who still wanted to use it.

While we are showing how long we have been on YT, since 1997 myself. How many of you were around when Kim would post tractor puzzles/games for us to mess with online and get prizes mailed to us for getting them correct?

Since there are two formats, 1. Which should I use for an initial post to reach the most people? 2. Should I stick to one view throughout the conversation? 3. If I see a response on the other view, should I then use that view to respond? 4. Is one better than the other for photos? 5. At some point, should I start a new conversation to ensure everyone (both views) sees it? Thank you.

Still learning...I hit the wrong reply button earlier and it placed this post second in line. This is where it should have been. Since there are two formats, 1. As I understand, everyone can see everything, including pictures, regardless of which view you choose to use. The main difference from my perspective is the way the posts are listed on the main page.

I use classic simply because that's all that we had 20 years ago, and it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Either that, or maybe I'm just set in my ways.

UseFixUse, you will get the same views either way. The biggest difference is that when you are on modern and someone adds a post to your thread you will see it because the new post brings it back up, whereas on classic it gets bumped to the second or third page in a dy or two where no one sees it.

One advantage to Modern view that I really like is the ""replied to posts"" roll to the top of the view page similar to the way "cream rose to the top" on whole milk when I was 60 yrs younger milking the family milk cow.
