Ford 3 cylinder tachometer

Are the tachometer different for the diesels than the gas? The one on ours wants to take another lap around the gauge when running. The tach cable isn t rounded and it did this with the old generation. The engine before was a 3000 gas, this motor is a 4000 diesel.

There is only one part listed for the tach for both gasoline engines and diesel engines across the 3 cylinder 2000/3000/4000 series. Original part number was C7NN17360B which has been superseded by part number EHPN10489AGV. Neither part number appears available from New Holland any longer. The entire cluster with the gauge already in it was EHPN10849A which has been superseded by EHPN10849AGV, which also appears to be unavailable from New Holland, so the only ones available are third party after market gauges.

Does your tractor have the original generator with the tach drive, or has it been converted to an alternator with a tach drive? There have been a few people recently saying that the alternators with the tach drives don't spin the cable at the same rate as the original generator tach drives.

You tach cable is in a bind and is pushing in on the tach, this causes the inside components of the tach to rub against each other making the needle spin farther than it should.
This usually happens when the cable doesn't fit in the generators tach drive far enough.
