172 gas won?t start

This 4140 with 172 gas has started instantly in the 6 months I?ve owned it. Same this morning, except I backed it out of the shed and it quit.
1. The fuel bowl is full and clean
2. Pulling the drain under the carb shows good fuel flow
3. Points are clean and set properly
4. With dist cap off, can see the points sparking
5. Removed wires from coil and cleaned terminals
6. Pulled lead wire from distributor to watch for spark. (It is the kind of wire with no copper, some sort of black fiber)
7. Spark seems weak. I can barely see it in daylight
8. Pulled a wire from a spark plug to watch the spark. Didn?t see the spark but got a whale of a shock
9. I know better, but shot a bit of starter fluid into the air intake

Nothing has changed since it was used a few days ago. It has spark and fuel. Any ideas are much appreciated. ?Peter

'sudden issue' and no fire on ether suggests points/condenser. Even tho they look good. easy and cheap to change out.

Enough of a spark to shock you is not necessarily enough of a spark to start the engine. Get an in-line spark tester and see what it says.

Check for gas getting to the cylinders by checking the plugs after cranking for five seconds with it choked.
