My alternator is overcharging ( 16.5 volts at 2500 rpm's). My battery checks good and it always starts. Does the stock alternator have an internal regulator ?
Thanks:

IIRC a 4600 would have an external vr mounted above the engine on the front of the gas tank, just under the hood.

Factory alternator uses an external reg. That said, when it overcharges it's usually a diode problem inside the alternator.

Locate 4 terminals on the back of the alternator. Two of them will be insulated against the aluminum case. The largest one should show battery voltage, because it goes straight to the battery. The other one should have battery voltage plus or minus 1/2 volt when running. If it is significantly lower, that's why it's overcharging. This is because the regulator uses that voltage as a reference signal.
