How do I test the solenoid on a 3610?

My buddy's 3610 will not turn over. Battery is good, so it must be either ignition switch, wiring disconnect, solenoid or starter - right?
I've had faulty solenoid on an 860 6 volt, but what is an easy, safe, way to by-pass the solenoid, to see if it is the problem? Your ideas
appreciated as always!

Make damn sure the tractor is out of gear.
There is a big honkin battery cable and a little wire connected to a spade clip on the end of the solenoid. Pull the little wire off then arc across the two with a screw driver.
It will spark a bit but thats ok. That should turn the engine over and tell you if the solenoid is working.
More commonly you'll find that the neutral safety switch is not perfect. Turn and hold the key to start then jiggle the hi/lo shifter fore and aft a bit. It will start when it finds the sweet spot on the switch.
Very common to have to jiggle them a bit.
