New Problem with 6600 PS Box

I have PS fluid leaking from the weep hole on the steering box right above the 4 bolt flange where the steering column bolts to the lower section of the steering box. In the parts breakdown i see a #18 on shaft #24. Could that be my problem??

This all started when i noticed the power steering didn't work and i checked the resevoir and it was low so i added ATF. The PS did work great for a bit till it started leaking.

What's your diagnosis?

Was ATF the wrong thing to put in the resevoir?

ATF didn't hurt the seal any.

I would say you're correct, seal #18 is your problem. Suggest putting a seal kit #58 in that entire upper valve section while you're in
there.

Boy I've done it now... got into the steering box today to check out leaking. So I got it apart ok and found pitted shaft and worn seal. So I started unscrewing shaft out of the housing and the balls started q. Some hit the ground some fell into the oil in the housing. Oh C R A P I said. So cool I made more work for myself. Reading in my manual it said 28 balls in the worm section and 14 balls in the upper and lower bearing cup. For a total of 42 balls....whew!!! Glad I retrieved all the balls that dropped. Hopefully I can get a speedy sleeve for worn and pitted shaft.

You out there Bern, I might need help putting this all back together... Thanks

Wow! that shaft is bad! What was supposed to keep the water out? m friend has a 7600 with oil all over the steering area.

That shaft is a prime candidate for a speedi sleeve. I've never seen a shaft pitted that badly before.

As for getting the balls back in, you'll need lots of Vaseline. And preferably cool weather, or refrigerated Vaseline. Pack the Vaseline into
the tracks where the balls ride inside the nut, and then force the balls in one at a time. As the balls get pushed along the track, keep
putting even more Vaseline over the top of the balls. When all 28 balls are in (count them as you go), you simply thread the shaft back in as
if you were screwing a bolt into a stationary nut. You just do it very carefully, and make sure the shaft bottoms out when it's all the way
in. If it doesn't, pull it back out and fish out your displaced ball(s) and start over. If you're careful, you'll get it your first time.

Pack the remaining balls into the bearing races in a similar manner.

I got all 28 balls back inside the housing today. It was easy and was greased pretty good when I got done from all the Vaseline used keeping those balls in place. Also got a speedi sleeve on the pitted shaft. Should work good when I get the new seal kit for it. Thanks Bern for your expert advice.
Now I'm sorting out the wiring. Only the dash lights work. No oil, alternator or air cleaner lite are working. Plus the temp and fuel gage are not working either. There is no stabilizer in my setup. I see there should be in my wiring diagram. Wonder why?

mine don't have one for sure.. i just saw it on my wiring diagram. Wiring all sorted out now. Fuse good too.

Do you have a wiring diagram for my 1981?

Not handy. The one you have is close enough for most everything else other than the gauges.

Look for a diagram for a 6610 if you want something different. Should be real close.

I did order a new stabilizer for this tractor. I will wire it accordingly like the diagram I have.
Bern... did they eliminate the stabilizer when they went to a alternator charging system?

Finally today I rec'd the power steering seal kit. I got it all back together and it works great with no oil leaking.
I also have all the gages and idiot lites working.
Tomorrow I taking it for a test drive and put the loader back on
