Ford 3000 carb on 4000

Can you put a 3000 carb on a 4000? Would the 4000 run crappie or run with no power? I have someone that might want to borrow it.

It should run fine, just less power at the top end, but not "crappy". Should get better fuel mileage/hourage as long as you're not trying to do something that would require the maximum hp the tractor could make. It will require a slightly higher throttle position to get to proper engine rpm for 540 rpm PTO speed.

I did that very thing.
Put a new Zenith on my 3000.
Couple years later I put a 4000 engine it
it. Had to adjust the main jet out a bit
but it ran fine. Had lots of power.

It should run ok but will have less power due to the smaller main jet size, may run a little warmer under load due to the lean fuel mixture.
3000 used a 51-53 jet, early 4000 used a 56 jet and later 201 engines used a 60 jet.
If you have the 4000 carb you could change the jets.

The carb ended up not working out. The holly didn't want to idle and only ran with with choke. The zenith carb that was on it ran good, but you could only idle or 1/4 it with the choke or it would stall out. I'm thinking that the float is out of adjustment.
