Transhydraulic leak

I've got a !(57 or '58 ford 901 (it's a 900, I just learned where the model number would be found but I haven't had a chance to
look) and it looses trans hydraulic fluid very quickly and it appears to leak a lot from this plate under the tractor. There is
even what looks like the end of a cotter pin sticking out of it. I can't find what it would be called as I have a copy of the
operators manual but no repair manuals. Can you 'all tell me what this square plate is called so I can order a gasket and maybe a
new plate. Also would there be any reason to have a cotter pin there?

The cotter pin is there to keep the hole open. This area contains the clutch and the hole allows any leakage from either the rear main seal of the engine or the transmission input shaft seal(s) to drain rather than further contaminating the clutch. If you are losing transmission/hydraulic fluid from this area it's either a deteriorated seal associated with the transmission/PTO input shafts or possibly a damaged hydraulic tube that runs along the bottom of the casting. Removing the plate might allow you to observe and diagnose. Be careful.

I believe that the plate did not appear until the XX1s in late '58. At any rate you will need to split it to replace the transmission input shaft seal, which it almost certainly is because when the hydraulic tubes leak it is almost always in the transmission. Post back for guidance on splitting which is not tough, and replacing the seal and related parts. Both jobs are basically just time.
