Replaced the pto seal in my 1959 Ford 881. The new seal is not nearly as good as the old one. The old one had two lips to seal around the shaft and the new only has one. The new one didn't last long and now leaks worse than the old one ever did. Any suggestions on a good pto oil seal to use? Thanks for the help.

Grab you calipers and measure the diameter of the shaft the seal rides on an the distance across the housing the seal fits in and take these two measurements to your local NAPA dealer. At least in my case , he can usually come up with the right seal for your situation. It might have to be ordered!!

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Where did you buy the seal?
I needed a seal for my 1966 4000 last
fall. Brought the old one to my local
bearing house which is usually Very good
about matching up seals for me.
They could get one but it was thinner
than the original seal.
I passed and called my CNH dealer and got
the correct one that was the right size.
It was not too expensive.
Maybe try your dealer?
Also, if the seal area on the shaft is
worn or pitted a new seal may not last.
You can buy a speedi sleeve at most
bearing houses.

The pto shaft does have a little noticeable wear on the contact area. Not familiar with a Speedi sleeve but I will look into it. Thanks
