1) My old "Ford 4000 SU" has a D14140 model number on the sticker under the hood. I ordered a new fuel tank for a 4000, and it doesn't fit. Do I need a 4100 or 4140 fuel tank? I wasn't confused about the model number until now. Should I be ordering 4100 parts? Any help is appreciated : )

Yeah, everything from the steering column forward is the same as the 2000/3000 except the engine. From the trans rearward it is the same as a regular 4000.

I do see on a spec sheet I found online that the SU has a 13 gal tank. Thanks for that good info.

This has all been plenty confusing.

So, you have a 4000SU. Nice to meet you! I've been told that they are identical to the 3 cyl 4000s except for the steering and front axle. No one explained that it affected the whole profile.

Mine is a 3 cylinder diesel. I was looking at a smaller tank, but the listing said "does not fit the 4000". That's why I ordered this one.

Which 4000 model tractor did you order a tank for? Can you provide a link to where you ordered it from? They made two different Ford 4000 series of tractors. The early ones had 4 cylinder engines and were made prior to 1965. The later 4000 series tractor, which our 4000SU is one of, was made from 1965-1975 and had 3 cylinder engines.

4000 has a 15 gallon tank

4000SU uses the shorter profile of the 2/3000, they use a 13 gallon tank.

You need to order a 3000 tank for your SU

My 4000SU was burnt when I got it, I ordered a 3000 tank which was a prefect fit.
