703 loader filter question

The filter the last owner has on ours is a Fram xg3976a, the specs say its for full synthetic oil... So I'm not sure this kind of filter is correct or needed.

Are oil filters all basically the same as long as they fit? This fram doesn't seem to cross with anything I can find doing a basic google.

For you guys who have and use the 703 what other brands and numbers do you use? Shouldn't it use a filter for hydro fluid and not motor oil? (does it even make a difference?)

Thanks!

Most Fram filters are junk, but the XG series filters are actually very high quality. That being said, they are a engine oil filter and not a hydraulic filter. The main difference is the flow capabilities of hydraulic filters vs oil filter. Donaldson makes the best engine and hydraulic filters on the market hands down. I used to be Fleetguard diehard because Cummins owns them, but after much research and oil sample analysis I made the switch to Donaldson on my trucks and equipment. I do run the Fram XG vehicles on my wife and daughters vehicles.

So I need to find a hydro filter that fits. I hope napa has an equivalent. Where do you get Davidson brand.... I've never heard of it.

I have some spare hydraulic filters for our old NH skid steer... I got them at napa. They are marked as a hydraulic filter.

If they spin on right and the rubber gasket is the same diameter, will they work? I will have to get the number off one tomorrow. They are big fat spin on filters...

I'm guessing, all spin on oil filters work the same way.

As far as I can see in the parts sheets on Messicks, the 703 didnt come with a spin on, it has some kind of multi piece cartridge set up. This spin on must be an upgrade add on maybe?

Go to https://www.messicks.com/nh/51103. Scroll down the index on the left side to "(054) Filters" and open that, there are spin on filters shown. Part Number 86546603 crosses to WIX 51553 which would be a NAPA 1553. They are listed as hydraulic filters. You can cross check the New Holland filters you have to see if they match, either by the WIX/NAPA number or the New Holland number from your book.

Crossing XG3976A FRAM to WIX it comes up as 51607 or 57620XE. Both are shown as engine oil filters for Cummins and some other manufacturers. One difference is the micron rating is smaller on the engine filters than hydraulic filters.

Just what I see, YMMV.
