Best place to buy engine overhaul parts?

Been shopping online to buy a complete engine overhaul kit for a 1984 Ford 5610 diesel. I see advertised prices but can't seem to find any information on who or where they are made. I need a new crank and some tractor places advertise $300 less than others. I have emailed vendors to try and get some info with no response. Today I called yesterdays and was caller number 23 waiting, waited 45 minutes and was down to caller 14 when I had to go. Wondering if the crankshaft is made in china and how the pistons and parts in the engine kits hold up. anyone ever bought a engine kit or advice on aftermarket vendors? Hard to find any reviews

Forget it!!!! Find a local automotive machine shop with good referrals and go talk with him. Maybe talk with two or three. When you have settled on one take the whole mess to him for evaluation. He will call you to come in for a meeting once he has it all evaluated. He will tell you your options and the two of you will decide on your path forward. He can do no assembly, or part of it or none of it, however you want to do it. He is buying all these parts everyday and has the best sources and can save you money on the parts. Sometimes a lot!! Being local he is invested in YOU, and you have a great resource for advice with problems that may arise as you go forward. I typically have them rebuild the head, hot tank and thoroughly clean the block, and install and ream the cam bearings. They will also align bore the mains if needed. You will get things done that you could not possibly know that you even needed doing and save yourself from having the engine grenade on you after 50 hours.

I have called all the machine shops within 60 miles and no one will touch a tractor or a diesel. A couple places 100+ miles away specialize in cummins 6BT said they might do it but never worked on tractor engines before. There is a tractor machine shop that I have bought parts from before with good luck but is 3 hours away. Guess I will check with them. I understand your comment about grenading. This tractor I bought not running and had been sitting about 5 years and the motor was stuck. the son said and his father had died. I was able to get it free up and turned over and started but had lots of engine noise. pulled engine out and tore apart. looks like the guy had redone the head, put new pistons in and just rod bearings. 2 connecting rod caps came loose and tore up the crank. the mains are ford dated 83. according to all the filters the hour meter shows 21 hours so I think that is how long it lasted. Thanks for the reply

Wow, I have about five really good shops within 25 miles. Three have worked on tractor engines for me.

Wish I could say that. In the past I have had machine work done on a cub tractor engine and a 9n ford at a local auto machine shop but sad to say it closed up and all the other machine shops are into building race engines for everyone it seems. Lots more choices back east. Went to PA last year and was amazed at all the small tractor dealers every 20 miles and small machine shops everywhere.
