Select-o-speed Shift Lever Slipping

Hello,
I have a '72 5000 with select-o-speed and the lever and cable have begun to slip. I've taken this assembly apart a few times and realigned it and tightened it, but the fix is short term and after a few shifts it slips again. The transmission itself has been strong and aside from this recent issue, I have no qualms with the SOS. I'm hoping that someone out there has some ideas on a permanent fix.

Thanks in advance, Dave

You might try JB Weld. Other than that, a salvage yard replacement would be your best bet. These latter are hard to come by.

I had the same trouble on my 6000, and found the aluminum cable wheel was no longer crimped tight on the steel center washer, so when the shift shaft and washer was moved the cable wheel did not. I "repaired" it by drilling five holes in the wheel that just caught the edge of the steel washer and using roll pins to lock them together. Cost a few drill bits as the steel washer is HARD! Shifts great now.

Thanks for the replies. I actually ended up contacting Arthur's Tractors and they were very familiar with the issue. I packaged up the assembly and shipped it to them today. They will rebuild it. Hoping for a good outcome.
