My Ford Bush Hog/Rotary cutter

I have a worn Ford Bush Hog that I have to add gear oil to after 2 hours us. I am currently using 80/90 wt. I know my seals are worn but Is there a heavier oil that I can put in the gear box other than packing with grease. Just trying to extend the life.

You should try straight 140 wt. gear oil, which is about as thick as you can get and still be called oil. If it still leaks with that then I would go with NIGL 0 or 00 grease, which is one of the the thinnest in the grease category and will keep the mating surfaces of the gear teeth lubricated without any air bubbles producing dry spots (it's called "corn head grease" by JD). Ford actually had a service bulletin to change the steering gear lubrication from gear oil to NIGL grease when the steering gears would leak.

Oil seals are fairly cheap, the hardest
part is usually getting the blade holder
off. But it sounds like you're losing oil
pretty quick so the bearings may be loose
as well letting the shaft move around too
much.

(quoted from post at 12:23:05 05/07/20) If it is a Ford it is not a Bush Hog.
I have a King Kutter brand brush cutter that I bought used. Lower seal leaked terribly if I put gear oil in. I used 00 grease similar to corn head grease and it worked great with no leakage. Finally pulled the stump jumper and blades and put a seal in it but it still has the grease in it and it works great.

to put into context..... My ford chevy has a problem.

Bush Hog is a "brand" name of many types of equipment.

technically your Ford "Rotary Cutter" has a problem.

Down here, they are "Shredders" for shredding pastures..

Ford 2000, 3 cyl. diesel; 8/2 trans.....attached (I hope) is a pic of the bottle of 00 grease (corn head grease?) that I got at Tractor Supply a few months ago. It seems to be the cottage cheese of greases. It's consistency works great is a veterinary syringe converted to mini-grease gun that I use for pinpoint greasing. When I changed out the ancient oil in my brush hog, I filled it with this 00 grease and it does not leak. Seems like the bottle of grease was less than $5 at TSC and it was enough to fill the gear housing.
