1958 841 Charging issue revisited - possibly solved

Finally got some decent weather, so I revisited my charging issue.

I found that the regulation contact when the coil was not energized (tractor off) was not making a connection, therefore not allowing any field voltage. I initially sanded the contacts, but upon close inspection there was a gap. I tapped the top contact to get it to touch the other contact. When I did this, and started the tractor the cutout relay closed (which it was not doing prior) and voila! I had charging. When I stop the tractor the cutout relay opens, so this appears to now be working. I'm charging at a little over 8.5 VDC, so that's too high. Any way to adjust this output? Or is it just a case of a bad VR not doing it's job properly?

Voltage regulators are in fact adjustable, but from my recent experience with two different styles, the adjustment process is extremely
sensitive and almost frustrating in a way. If it wasn't for the fact that my current project is a restoration, I'd have chucked the whole
system in favor of an alternator.

I did find a youtube showing how to adjust it, so I got it down from the 8.5V to around 7.44 which I believe is correct. Or close. Using a digital multimeter is probably not the best meter - analog would be a little easier I think.

I'm with you on the restoration. My Ferguson went alternator, but I want the generator on the Ford. Still have to hunt down some original bolts. Gotta be right. Once I get everything working, I'll tear it apart for sandblasting and paint.
