The 2910 is a good tractor. It has the same front axle and steering as your 3000, but with a slightly more powerful engine and the double reduction rear axle with inboard wet brakes like the 3 cylinder 4000 had. It has improved hydraulics as well with higher flow rate for remote applications, but still a bit slow to run a loader at acceptable speed, although I believe you could add a second pump to improve the flow rates for the remotes that might make a loader run fast enough for most folks.

I?ve never had a 2910 but I have a 2600 and 3600 diesel and I will
never get rid of them, they are super heavy duty and powerful for
their size. I?m assuming the 2910 diesel is the same way. Just for
fun I hooked my 10 shank chisel plow to my 3600 and it pulled it a lot
better than I expected, to be fair it was only 4 or 5 inches in the
ground but probably could?ve went a little deeper.

I have a real good 3000 diesel but would
forsake it for a 2910 - if only for the
superb wet disc brakes. Wet brakes will
put our 3000 dry brakes to shame.
Tractordata says it has the same 175 ci
diesel as a 3000 but a tad Less
horsepower.
Wonder if that's accurate.
2910 will have Independent PTO instead of
Live PTO. I still prefer the Live type as
you can stomp on the clutch to shut
everything down if you get in trouble
whereas with independent you have two
things to do - stomp on clutch AND turn
off pto.
IPTO sure makes them easier to split if
you ever have to. No dinking around with
that side pump and lines like we have to
do now.
Rear rims and centers will be harder to
find if you ever need them.
I've never owned a 10 Series but suggest
you go for it if you can. Every series
Ford made had refinements over the one
before it. You'd be jumping two series
forward with it.
Lastly, going from gas to diesel:
I don't know what other tractors you have
but diesels Stink. The fuel stinks and
the exhaust stinks. And these 3 cyl
diesels are much noisier than a gasser
and less pleasant to drive.
Nice to know they'll start and run with
no worries about spark and old gas
though. Diesels just run.
They Always start and run.

2910 is a nice tractor that replaces the older 2000/2600 but has the better 4000 style rear axle with wet disc brakes, if you use the pto often I'd look for a 3910 that is the replacement for your 3000, with 2 more hp.
2910 and 3910 are same physical size.

I have diesel trucks lol, the smell does not bother me, and I prefer the way the diesel tractors sound, as well as every other advantage to diesel especially in tractor applications.

So, just digging in... when I try to find parts for the engine for the 1029, seems searches want to bring up info for the 175ci used in the 3000. What's the difference in the two versions of the 175? Oddly, the older 3000 version has more powet

A few more hp than 8N but 2000 lbs heavier, 1500 lbs more than NAA, the extra weight is going to take away any advantage those few extra hp can make.

Same physical size and weight 3910 has 42 hp and 4610SU has 52 hp, 10-20 more hp makes a big difference when pulling a rotary cutter or good size tiller.

Bought the 2810! As to power being less, I think it will still do everything I need without issue... Now, given that statement, are their minor/easy mods to make these tractors a little more efficient/effective? I come from the diesel truck world, and none of mine are stock. I'm not looking for the hot rodding you get from the trucks, just any simple things to improve the function. Would a straight stack help any? Worth it? Noise doesn't bother me. Also, I know not to lug while working, but is it easy to get them to idle down lower like the older tractors?

Idle speed should bee 6/700 rpm, I like 7/800 myself.
There is a idle setting on the inj pump or the throttle linkage needs adjusted.
The pump can be turned up but something I've never done, usually 10% is considered max safe on a working tractor which could gain you 3/4 hp on that 158 engine.
Straight pipe just makes it loud as out get out with not power gain, good way to ruin your hearing.
