Ford 960 Starter Won't Disengage

I have a Ford 960 and the starter won't disengage. I had the starter checked out at a starter shop and they reported it as good. I replaced the solenoid but it still won't disengage. Any ideas as to what else I should check?

I guess it could be your starter switch or wiring shorted as well. What happens if you pull the small wire off the solenoid when it does this. If it stops you've a short to ground somewhere in the wire to the starter button or the starter button itself.

If it doesn't stop see my previous post.

Is there anywhere I can see the proper way
the solenoid should be wired? When the
starter hasn't disengaged I disconnected
the starter button and nothing changed.

Good 3 post solenoid. Check with an ohmmeter. One big post will have continuity with the small post. The other big post will not.

Hook the cable from the battery to the big post that is continuous with the small post. Hook the cable to the starter to the big post that is not.

If that doesn't work, suspect wrong or bad solenoid . . . even if it's new.

I should add:

Check for continuity between the two big posts. There should be none unless you're trying to start the tractor.

Where does the wire from the starter button get connected to the solenoid? How can I tell if the solenoid is shot?

I'm not sure how to answer this without sounding offensive. But here goes. I've basically already told you how to check your solenoid. If you can't follow that and can't figure out where the wire from the starter button connects, I think you'd be money ahead to take it to someone who understands how it works, or bring someone to it.
