I am trying to find out how to decipher the numbers on the bell-housing. The numbers are top C2044C
middle 5D30B
bottom C465941
Number on the lower block is E709922 I take it as a 356 engine. The fellow I bought it from tell me it is a 1975. Thanks Guys

Something haywire with your model number
- C2044C
C makes it a 3000.
A 5000 would be an E there

20 = row crop

The first number after the 20 should be
fuel type.
1 for diesel, 2 for gas, 3 for LP.
There was no #4

C2044C would be a 3000 series row crop chassis with a diesel engine with horizontal exhaust, independent 540 rpm PTO and an 8 speed transmission.

5D30B - April 30 1975 day shift

C465941 - 1975 serial number

E709922 is the engine serial number from a 5000 series engine, which should have a 256 ci engine, not 356.

A couple of problems:

1. They never made a 3000 series row crop as far as I am aware. In the title of this thread you said "5000 row crop". A 1975 5000 row crop model number would start with E instead of C.

2. The fourth character inth emodel number you posted, 4, would mean that it has a diesel engine with a horizontal exhaust but you say it has a gas engine. I'm also not sure if they use the 4 designation prior to the x600 series, but since it was made in 1975, it was made durign the oerlap between the thousand and x600 series so it might have been.

So my guess is that either the transmission or the ngine was replaced at some point, or you got the model number wrong. A 1975 5000 row crop with a gas engine, independent PTO and an 8 speed trans would be E2024C.

I typed in the wrong letter in the top number. It is E2044C. That would mean that I have 5000,256 gas engine, 8 speed transmission, Independent pto made in 1975.
Am I right!

E2044C makes more sense, but not completely. The first 4 indicates that the transmission with that model number stamped into it was in a tractor that had a diesel engine with horizontal exhaust when it left the factory. If it truly has a gas engine now, then as I said before, either the engine or transmission has been swapped out at some point over the years.

(quoted from post at 14:16:44 04/30/20) I still had the number wrong, it is E2024C. Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. 5000 row crop (also called a 5200) with gas engine, independent 540 rpm PTO and 8 speed transmission.
