I got tired of trying to fix, all the broken wires, and non-color coded
wires. To heck with that!!!!

SOOooo, I ordered and received a new harness!! Guess what......No better off, except a real nice looking harness....you can guess whatever.......NO COLOR CODE MATCHING....NO Installation sheet as to where the wires go!!!
Did'nt I mention.......I'm lost with electrics!!!!

Has ANYONE done a harness change with the harness they sell for a 73 Ford 3000 D. !!???

I need someone that has done one , and can help me figger out where all these wires go!!
Very nicely done harness,....but the color code does not even come close to being the same code, that is pictured in the FO31 Shop Manual!!!

I'm thinking I'm too dang old to figger this out!!

TIA

Gary

Jmor sent this to me. Unfortunatly he said he does not have the second half of it.
Anyone out here got the bottom half of this picture.

I have a feeling that the second half of this, has the #'rd location for all the #'rd wires.
THAT would help a LOT!!!!

Ha Gary
I got some papers ,electrical diagrams etc, of the 1000 series tractors. Some not so good. Email should be open! Maybe could send them your way, if I am lucky!!! Might be of help to you. What is the prefix of your serial Number? "C"?

I believe this is the harness you have:

I have that harness on my 4000SU and another one in the shop to go on a project tractor I'm working on. SU's been converted to alternator but I can probity figure out what wire went to where.
May be later tonight or tomorrow before I can get photos or something drawn up.

I can not edit an old post?

Here are some information for the original harness, to make the matching easier.

Strange forum...I can not edit and I can not attach files.
Here eare the files I tried to attach earlier:

"Hacke"
Ya just made my day a whole lot easier!!! Didn't have a clue, what I was gonna do, without the second half of that instruction sheet!! :D
Don't know why that sheet is not mailed out with those harnesses!!????

Thanks for the help!!! I'll be a happy camper when I get that harness installed. Really don't need the color code, to install it....all points are numbered!!!!

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary

Glad to be of any help.
I would do some checking at the installation of the harness. There may be a reason to why they did not give you an instruction...

It is common with these problems when someone bought an alternator or a key switch, for instance, and very annoying.

Welcome to the Board Hacke.

Gary. I am sorry to not have gotten any thing to you, but between the computer and a 86 year old man, and me not being able to fined your address, I guess I give up. Besides it sound like you may have gotten what you need

Morning Wayne;
Don't worry yerself over me......and yes I did receive the full wiring harness install sheet from Hacke that matches the harness that I have.
Now, as soon as I get Leslie back from having her dental work done in Missoula, I plan on replacing the old tore up wiring!!
Always something going on around here!!!
Looks like....if all goes well....my 3000 will have a new harness on it soon!
I'm thinking, I should also have a new harness on me!!!

Thanks a heap for your effort.
Say hello to your wife for me...Hope all is going well there.

Went out to the shop yesterday and opened up the new warning harness, the paper was in the package, this is the first Sparex harness I've used. The cloth covering is different but may offer more protection than a couple layers of tape that was used on previous aftermarket harnesses I've used, while changing the terminals on the regulator wires I found that even though the wires looked to be of good size most of that size was the rubber coating and the actual wires are a bit small.
The original brown power wires were 10 or 12 gauge size, the new ones are a size smaller 12 or 14 gauge, probably ok for the original 22 amp generator but a bit concerning for a 45 amp alternator when recharging a low battery.
I found the engine harness to be several inches to long which I simply folded in behind the valve cover but it appears to be long enough to possibly work on the 4 cylinder 5000 model, this is good to know as I have a 5000 project tractor that will need rewired as well.
Even though a couple of the wires didn't match the instructions colors it was simple enough to figure out where they went and the instructions made to entire process a nearly plug and play job.
I'll keep the instruction sheet in my files should to next harness come without them.

D...S...
Was the instruction sheet in box, the same as what I sent to you???
Maybe, someone read my statement about not having the instructions, placed in the box with the harness!!!???
When I got my new Sparex harness, it did not come with ANYTHING!!! Just the harness....no instruction sheet.

Gary :?:

Yes they where in the package and were the same instructions but I've had this harness in my inventory for over a year.
Having 8 65/newer Ford tractors I try to keep some extra parts on hand, this harness was for a differ tractor but it hasn't made it into the show yet, I'll be ordering another harness soon, maybe two since it looks like I can use one one my 5000.
