54 NAA Steering Issue

So, yesterday all of a sudden no steering to the left. Steering shaft is actually screwing up and out of the tube/housing. Pulled the
gearbox last night but have not yet torn it down this morning. Looking over the manual, it looks like a upper bearing problem allowing the
shaft to screw it self up. Gonna tear it down this morning, but wondered if anyone could verify my thinking and maybe give me a heads up as
what to look for.

Thanks

Just finished reworking my Ford 651 steering box last year. Just about the same box. Same issue and yes the upper bearing was destroyed. The lower bearing was bad also from pieces of the upper bearing floating around what little oil was left in the box. Lack of oil seems to be the culprit. I noticed yesterday that I have some oil seepage around the right steering arm seal.

Yeah, mine was leaking oil from the RH sector seal,, but I was putting it off till winter,,, guess I waited too long. Well I'll pull it
apart this afternoon and see what's up. Thanks

The top bearing doesn"t get much lube. I drilled a hole below the steering wheel to squirt in oil. If the little gasket above the tin is stiil there you can lift it up and make the hole there.
