Ford 3000 gas PTO clutch stuck

Thanks to everyone that helps out on a
daily basis to solve people's problems. I
was hoping someone could help me out with
my problem. I have a ford 3000 gas tractor.
When the tractor is running I cannot engage
the pto without grinding. In order for me
to use my shredder I have to engage it when
the tractor is off. When I crank the
tractor all is well and I can disengage it
at any time with no noise. To engage it
again however it will grind. At low rpm I
can throw the lever back hard but it doesnt
seem right. I have a friend of mine that
works at john deere and is a tractor
mechanic/ fabricator when he gets off. He
splits tractors all the time. I'm hoping I
wont have to do that but I was coming to
you guys to see if someone had a similar
issue.

I found this video and it is exactly what
mine does. This is after the person
replacing the clutch too. The poster said
that the tractor just eventually broke in
and it doesnt make the noise anymore.

Does your 3000 have a two stage clutch? This means you can disconnect the PTO without stopping the tractors motion due to the main clutch. Reason I ask is had a 3000 diesel that had the two stage clutch replaced it once and later sold the tractor with the second PTO clutch grinding on engagement as you describe. Can't offer anymore but a split may be in order.

Depending on the age of the tractor have you got a two hole clevis where the clutch rod goes into the clutch housing? If so it needs to be in the rear hole when using the PTO, all the rest of the time it goes in the front hole.

I have had success in freeing up the PTO clutch by putting a brush hog on the PTO and running the tractor at tickover with the clutch fully down. The "lumpy" turning of a slow running cutter will free things off if a stuck plate is the problem.

Picture is not a 3000 but the same setup.

The disc is not stuck its just not releasing enough stop from dragging. This is caused by the transmission disc wearing out. As disc disc wears the gap for releasing pto disc lessens. There are 3 links that need to be turned over or replaced while in there.

I'm not sure if this helps.

Thank you for the responses guys.
I bent the clutch rod a while back from small trees and the exhaust coming off.
I was doing research last night and read about clutch freeplay maybe when I bent the rod it didn't help that at all?
I believe it's a 2 stage clutch but am no mechanic to tell you guys. I learn as people teach me and love to learn.
We added this loader on it since I got it and I really like my tractor it just keeps giving me small issues. I'm determined to get it going I have 9 acres to keep up that needs cleaning.

I can press the clutch and stop the tractor but it seems that the pto remains spinning if I engaged it before I turned the tractor on.
Thank you guys so much for the help!

Thank you for the help! What exactly is tickover that you are referring to? I do have a 5 foot shredder to use please let me know I will try it!
